Halloween is so much fun for the little monsters in our lives, but it can be hard to curb the sugar-fuelled hyperactivity that goes hand-in-hand with the holiday.
Here’s a creepy collection of spooky savoury treats you can whip up with ease and help bring your little ghosts back down to earth this Halloween, without missing out on the fun!
SPOOKY SAUSAGES ???
Grill some pork sausages over a high heat, just until they are browned on the outside. They don’t need to be cooked through yet as they’ll go into the oven again later. Allow to cool to room temperature.
Cut sheets of puff pastry into 1cm strips. Once the sausages are completely cool, wrap with the pastry strips, leaving some gaps to emulate the mummy’s bandages. Lay each wrapped sausage on a baking paper lined oven tray and brush the pastry with a little beaten egg.
Bake at 200℃ for 10-15 mins or until the pastry is puffed and golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before adding candy eyes to complete the treats!
PETRIFYING PARTY PIES
Fry 500g of Linley Valley pork mince until brown, then add one 375g jar of Mexican simmer sauce. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Allow the filling to cool.
To make the lids, cut circles of puff pastry slightly larger than the holes of your muffin tin. Cut out scary faces in each circle, then place on a try in the freezer while you line the base of the tin.
Cut more circles of puff pastry big enough to line your muffin tin. Grease the tin and press pastry into each hole. Spoon in the pork taco mix to ⅔ full, then brush the edge of the pastry with egg wash and apply the lid. Brush more egg on top.
Bake at 180℃ for 20-30 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden. Squeeze a little ketchup into the holes of each face just before serving.
SCARY SLIDERS
Grill bacon until golden brown, then roll each rasher up while still warm. Slice through the centre of a brioche slider bun and stuff with iceberg lettuce, mayo and bacon rashers – with the end of the bacon poking out like a tongue.
Add 2 small slices of pimento stuffed olives for eyes and serve!
